What are the Treatment Methods of Pest Control?

Crack & Crevice Treatment

Insects spend most of their time hidden in cracks and crevices. They're seen in the open on those occasions when they are foraging for food. For control and elimination purposes it is important to place the insecticide where insects harbor. To do this there are a number of tools available: crack & crevice tips for aerosol cans (often provided with product), Bellows hand duster and Centro-bulb duster for insecticide dusts, and syringes for gel baits (provided in product box). Cracks to be treated include where cabinets meet the wall, under refrigerators, around dishwashers, cracks along the baseboards and cracks where windows and doors meet sills.

Spot Treatment

Applying an insecticide to a limited area where targeted pests are intruding or a nuisance is known as a spot treatment. It offers control only to those small areas directly treated.

Bait Placement

Insecticide baits come in three forms: Granular, bait tubes, and bait discs. Granular baits can be applied to large areas (e.g., yards, flowerbeds) by using a handheld spreading device, or for larger jobs, by four-wheeler-powered spreader. Gel baits come in tubes with plungers (syringes) and crack & crevice tips for easy application. Ant and roach baits are also available in child-proof, easy-to-place discs. Effective control with gel baits and bait discs is determined by the number and location of bait placements. Gel baits should be injected into cracks and crevices near infested areas. Discs should be attached (back has adhesive) to surfaces near infested areas.

Void Treatment

Voids are enclosed areas in a structure that are hard to access, but are perfect insect breeding and harborage places. These include inside walls, behind heavy appliances, inside hollow foundation blocks, plumbing voids, etc. Dust is a good insecticide formulation to use in these areas, and is applied by using a Bellows hand duster or Centro bulb duster.

Broadcast Treatment

Broadcasting is the application of insecticide to a large area such as along the foundation of a structure or to a yard using a compressed air sprayer or truck-mounted power sprayer. Lawn care companies use this method to treat lawns or lots with liquid fertilizer and weed killer. Pest control companies use this method to treat along foundations for insect control.

Fogging

Fogging is the release of a fine pyrethrin-based mist into the air for the purpose of quickly knocking down pests. Seldom does it afford long term control. Indoors, fogging will quickly knockdown many targeted pests including ants, roaches, spiders, fleas and ticks.

Outdoors it is effective against any number of flying pests, including mosquitoes. With the emergence and spread of the West Nile Virus, outdoor fogging has increased considerably.

Above mentioned methods are effective and helpful when your property gets invaded by pesky pests. One should hire experts who will employ any of these methods to control and harmful insects and pests.
